Traditional Northern Thai (Lanna) instruments improvised by master musician Khru Add Panutat, the most prominent exponent of the modern day revival of the traditional Lanna music.
The centuries old traditional music of Northern Thailand (Lanna) has had a recent revival with the emergence of a younger generation of musicians of which Khru Add Panutat has been the most prominent exponent.
As a lifelong student and musician he has become an absolute master of all the instruments and techniques that make up the Lanna musical vocabulary, like the Peejum (a bamboo flute that is played using circular breathing) and the one handed harmonic tapping of the Phin Pia which is moved back and forth against the chest creating a natural wah effect. He also uses the Salaw, an upright two stringed bowed instrument; the Krui another bamboo flute; the Sueng, a four stringed lute; the Klong Wong, a circular gong collection and all the percussion instruments together with his voice in this collection of improvisations and new melodies.
The main aim of THomasso Records is to create sound that relaxes and rejuvenates soul, body and mind. These musical selections were chosen for that purpose, but also to help people understand the nature of Lanna music and in a wider context Lanna culture.
