For many years I’ve been fascinated by the power of music and it’s capability to reach across the cultural and spiritual differences that divide this world. It’s a common language that we can all understand and appreciate, and it can help to bring us closer together.
Producer Thomas van Nes has been living in Asia for more then twenty years. Since he opened his recording studio in 1997 he has been working on a wide variety of music with a passion for relaxation music. After co producing several chill out albums with Ban Sabai Spa it was only a matter of time before he started for himself. Combining his passion for music and traveling he has recorded in many Asian countries creating a fusion of traditional and Western sounds.
“Into Light” continues with the successful and intriguing fusion of the age old musical tradition from Nepal and the Indian subcontinent with the saxophone and modern technological possibilities. Specially designed for pure relaxation no vocals were added and most tunes are based on dreamy bansuri melodies. The musicians that played on the earlier released “Pilgrim to the Unknown” provided inspiring contributions and were joined by others. Besides bansuri tabla, mohan vinai, sarangi, sitar, violin, sarod, and saxophone (by jazz legend Ralph Thomas, who spent several years in Nepal) are used.
All drones and sounds are organic and have been used to enhance the character of the instruments in creating music for both relaxation and inspiration.
